Shiseno Textbook and Community Library Project

In this picture, Dr. Joella G. Simpson, foreleft, an active member on the board of directors of the Ray of Hope Foundation with the headmaster Mr. Nelson Nakachi, right, and the pupils of Shiseno Primary School.

Kenya,
November 2004.

Shiseno is a rural village in the Western Province of Kenya near Lake Victoria. The school has 7 qualified teachers for 501 students and one textbook for every 9 students. The Shiseno School and Library fund has been established at the request of school and community leadership. The fund will be used for the purchase of textbooks and supplies, training and salary for a community based library aid, classroom renovations, building of pit latrines and a water harvesting system.

The Ray of Hope Foundation made its first donation of books for 8th graders at the school in January 2005. We hope to continue to solicit funding to provide sufficient learning resources so that all pupils will have access to adequate learning tools.
